Our experience with approximately 90 patients with deep brain stimulation stems from 1973,
when we began using stimulation of the periaqueductal and periventricular grey in
association with Akil (7, 8). Stimulation of the internal capsule and sensory thalamus as
proposed by Adams and Hosobuchi (4) in the early 1970s has also proven to be efficacious.
