Food allergies are adverse reactions to foods that have an immunologic basis, as opposed
to food intolerance, which does not involve the immune system. 1 The clinical reactions that
occur in food allergy may be immunoglobulin E (IgE)–mediated or non–IgE-mediated. Non–
