Aging is the strongest independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease. Glomerular
epithelial cells are unable to proliferate and have limited ability to renew; therefore,
podocytes must maintain a delicate intracellular homeostasis that enables them to function
and adapt to stress endured during the human life span. Here, Wang et al. performed
unbiased transcriptomic analysis of aging podocytes and identified important novel
regulators.
